When people ask me how I’m doing lately, my response is: “I’m changing gears.”
With life opening up at what feels like an exponential rate, some days I’m barely keeping up.
It feels like the time I learned how to drive stick on the Chicago Speedway. I had under a 1/4 mile to learn how to change gears. That’s not a lot of time to ramp up while controlling a car I’d never driven before. My body remembers that feeling like it was yesterday. Intense, exhilarating and a bit overwhelming.
Being present, listening to my engine, feeling my foot on the pedal all guided me to change gears at a manageable pace.
As the inputs, choices, and expectations increase around you, just pause, pay attention and change gears.
